No Sweets: Day Five

Finally, the day has arrived I can eat sweets. I did not take any cookies when I packed my lunch for work this morning.

I've been waiting for 8 p.m. all day. My manager at work brought Halloween candy for us in the department and I admit I sniffed the candy like a psychopath. I just wanted to smell the chocolate that's all! But I did not eat any until 8. My manger took a picture of me eating some candy at the time I could eat it once again. When I got home I made dinner and then after I had some Oreo cookies and a glass of milk.

Not eating sweets for five days was easier than I thought. I honestly thought it would be hard and I contained myself pretty well. There were days when I wanted to cheat, but that would defeat the purpose of giving a vice up for a period of time.

Catholics give up something for Lent for 40 days and 40 nights to symbolize Jesus' time spent in the wilderness before he was crucified. It is a discipline that people are willing to do for their faith. I'm not a Catholic, but this project made me realize the things that I do all the time like eating sweets is actually good to give up once in a while. There is nothing wrong with giving up something we do all the time because it teaches discipline and self-restraint.

All in all, this was a fun project and I'm glad I got to participate in it and write about it.
